Best Time to Elope in the Redwoods

Timing your elopement in the Redwoods can greatly enhance the experience. I’d personally recommend timing your elopement through the months of late spring to early fall, April-October. Spring is one of the best times to elope in the Redwoods, with mild temperatures and lush greenery. The forest is coming alive with wildflowers and fresh foliage, and the crowds tend to be smaller than in the summer months. Though, with the dense foliage, the forest still tends to be a bit chilly during these months. Summer is also a great option, but it tends to be peak season. Especially in the state parks, you might find yourself running into crowds. Fall is another beautiful time for a Redwoods elopement. The summer crowds have dissipated, and the temperatures are still mild. The autumn light filters through the trees beautifully, and you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere without the rush of peak season. Keep in mind that it can get chilly in the evenings as the temperatures start to drop.

Tips and Tricks for Eloping in the Redwoods

Eloping in the Redwoods is a dream, but it’s important to be prepared. Here are some tips to ensure your day goes off without a hitch:

• Check the Weather: The weather in the Redwoods can be unpredictable, with fog, mist, and rain happening even in summer months. Be prepared for a sudden downpour by packing an umbrella or waterproof gear. Layering is also a good idea, as temperatures can vary from the forest floor to higher elevations.
• Time of Day: Because of the dense foliage the forest has to offer, the Redwoods can get dark and shadowy very fast. I’d recommend planning your elopement slightly before sunset or slightly after sunrise to ensure that strong light rays are still peeping through the canopy. If you’d like to have a full golden-hour glow, consider eloping deeper in the forest and taking golden hour photos on the outskirts of the forest afterwards.
• Get a Permit (if needed): Some areas in both the National and State Parks require permits for elopements or professional photography.
