You know those instances where you freeze time and just reflect on life? This session was one of those times.

We spent the evening in Missouri, tucked away in my grandfather’s field in Lawson, Missouri — a place that already holds so much history for me. Add two horses, golden light, and a whole lot of laughter, and it turned into something really special.

This couples session wasn’t about stiff poses or a perfect plan. It was about hanging out. Running through the grass. Letting the horses wander in and out of the frame. Laughing until we couldn’t breathe. The kind of session where you forget a camera is even there.

What made it even sweeter was who was in front of my lens.

This was my little sister and her boyfriend — her first love. Getting to document the very beginning of her love story felt like such a gift. There’s something incredibly tender about witnessing your little sister grow into herself, watching her become a woman who loves deeply and freely. It made my heart swell in ways I wasn’t prepared for.

And yes — he’s a great guy. Truly. Kind, patient, and exactly the kind of person you hope your little sister ends up with. (But don’t worry… I still reserve the right to be protective. All jokes. Mostly.)

As the sun dipped lower, the field glowed, the horses settled, and everything felt easy. No rush. No pressure. Just two people learning each other, surrounded by a place that feels like home to me.

This session reminded me why I love documenting couples the way I do — not as a performance, but as a chapter. The in-between moments. The beginnings. The kind of love that feels light, new, and full of possibility.

Watching my little sister step into this season of life was emotional in the best way. And being trusted to document it? I’ll never take that lightly.
