One of my favorite things about elopements is that they give couples the freedom to create a wedding day that actually feels like them. Instead of rushing through a packed schedule or spending the entire day posing for photos, you get to slow down and turn your wedding day into an experience.

And honestly? Oregon is one of the best places to do exactly that.

From rugged coastlines and dreamy forests to waterfalls, deserts, and mountain views, Oregon is made for adventurous, intentional wedding days. Whether you’re planning a sunrise ceremony on the coast or a full-day hiking elopement in the mountains, there are so many meaningful ways to make your day unforgettable.

Here are some of my favorite activities to incorporate into an Oregon elopement day:

Grab Coffee Together Before Sunrise

There’s something so intimate about starting your wedding day slowly together. Stop at a local coffee shop, make coffee together at your cabin, or bring a thermos to the trailhead before the sun comes up.

Some of the sweetest moments happen during the quiet in-between parts of the day — before the nerves settle and before everything officially begins.

Have a Picnic on the Coast

The Oregon coast is basically made for cozy post-ceremony picnics. Pack your favorite snacks, charcuterie, pizza, or even takeout from a local restaurant and spend time soaking it all in together.

Whether you’re at Cannon Beach, Cape Kiwanda, or somewhere tucked away along the coast, it’s such a simple way to slow down and actually enjoy your wedding day.

Go Hiking Together

If you love being outdoors together, incorporating a hike into your elopement can make the day feel even more meaningful. Oregon has everything from easy forest walks to challenging mountain trails with unreal views.

Some couples choose to hike to their ceremony spot, while others save a hike for sunset portraits later in the day. Either way, it turns your wedding day into an adventure instead of just an event.

Rent a Cozy Cabin or A-Frame

One of the best parts of an Oregon elopement is turning it into a full weekend experience. Renting a cozy cabin in the woods or an A-frame near the mountains gives you space to truly settle into the experience together.

You truly can’t talk about Oregon without mentioning waterfalls. Whether you want something iconic or tucked away and secluded, there are endless options throughout the state.

Waterfalls make an incredible backdrop for vows, first looks, or simply exploring together after your ceremony.

End the Night With Takeout + Drinks

Not every elopement needs a fancy reception dinner. Some of my favorite couples end the night with burgers and fries in the back of their truck, pizza on the beach, or tacos at their Airbnb while watching the sunset.

Bring champagne, your favorite dessert, or ingredients for cocktails and make the evening feel relaxed and intentional.

Play in the Water

Depending on the season, Oregon offers so many opportunities to fully embrace the outdoors. Run barefoot on the beach, jump into an alpine lake, canoe together, or simply dip your feet in the ocean at sunset.

Those carefree, playful moments always end up being some of the most memorable parts of the day.

Include Activities That Already Feel Like You

This is probably the biggest piece of advice I give couples when planning their elopement: your day doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s.
