There’s just something magical about couples who embrace the unpredictability of weather—and Tristen and Trinity are those people.
When we planned their engagement session at Smithville Lake, we knew there was a chance of rain, but that didn’t scare these two off. Instead of rescheduling, they leaned in. And I’m so glad they did—because the moody skies, soft sunset colors, and one unexpected rainbow gave us a night none of us will forget.
We kicked things off at Paradise Ice Cream Parlor in Smithville, a little nostalgic roadside spot that fit their vibe perfectly. Tristen pulled up in his shiny black Bronco, and right away I knew we were about to have fun. They shared ice cream cones under the overcast sky and posed by the old gas pump—laughing, goofing off, and being totally themselves.
It felt like something out of a small-town summer movie. And then… the sky opened just enough to show off a full rainbow right behind them. Literal perfection.
After ice cream, we made our way to Smithville Lake, and by then the storm had passed, leaving behind the most unreal sky. Think purple, blue, and blush pink clouds—soft and dreamy and just a little moody in the best way.
We ran through a hillside of tall, whispering grass, and the wind added that cinematic energy to every frame. Trinity’s laughter echoed across the hill as they chased each other down toward the water, hand in hand.
We ended the night at the lake’s edge, skipping rocks and soaking up the stillness. The air was calm, the light was gold, and everything felt slow and sacred.
This session wasn’t just about pretty photos (though, wow—so many good ones). It was about telling the story of who Tristen and Trinity are together: laid-back, full of joy, and up for anything—even a thunderstorm. These two turned a rainy forecast into one of the most heartfelt, romantic evenings I’ve ever had the honor of capturing.
If you’re dreaming of an engagement session that feels like you—ice cream, vintage trucks, barefoot lake walks and all—I’m so here for it. Weather doesn’t scare me. What matters most is capturing your connection in a way that’s true to who you are.
I helped recreate Tristen and Trinity’s favorite date night for their session, which is why it feels so emotive, fun, and playful—just like them. Whether it’s your go-to weekend adventure, a quiet place that means something to you, or simply a vibe that feels like home, I’m here to help bring it to life.
