Growing up with country roots, I’m always happy to take a hike back to my hometown north of Kansas City to capture stories with my camera. The truth is, though I live downtown in the city, I miss the peace and quiet of the country! This is where I first met Chloe. I took her senior portraits in 2022, and kept loose connection since then. Little did I know at the time of that first shoot that she had a boyfriend named Chris! Fast forward a couple more years, and the two of them trust me to capture their love story.
The first thing that I asked Chloe when she reached out to me was, “What is a typical date day/night for you two?” She gave me several ideas, from legos and long car rides to Chik-fil-a! This is the primary detail to storytelling photography – knowing the story in which you are trying to tell.
As soon as they got all snuggled up in the back of the truck, it started to rain. No big deal – frolicking around in the rain makes the prettiest cinematic photos!
I always try to get lots of movement with my photos. Thankfully, these two are basically athletes, haha! Between the “Run over to that spot in the field!” and “Pick her up here!” the two couldn’t stop giggling while catching their breaths.
Of course, we had to get some “pretty pictures” for grandma’s fridge, too!
Then I asked the most daring question: “Hey Chris, would you mind if Chloe got on your shoulders for a sec?”
By this point, we were all pretty soaked from the rain and feeling a bit chilly, so I asked Chris and Chloe how they felt about rolling around in the field and getting a little cozy with each other. Despite their all white outfits, they said, “absolutely!”
We made our way back to the truck to play a short game of Go Fish. Little did we know that Chris had a little surprise in store for us!
This was such a wonderful way to kick off the weekend, and I am so glad that Chloe reached out to me again. These two were such a joy to “third wheel” with, and too cute to function! I would never want to frolic around in an empty field with anyone else. To Chris and Chloe, forever!
