There’s something extra special about photographing the people you love most. This sweet late morning family session at Binder Lake in Jefferson City, Missouri, was close to my heart—because it was for my sister-in-law Victoria, her husband Jordan, and their two precious little ones, Eleanor and Jack.

This session was all about savoring the slower moments and celebrating their newest addition to the family. Baby Jack was just a couple weeks old—snuggly, peaceful, and already so deeply loved. Eleanor, now an adventurous two-year-old and proud big sister, was full of energy and curiosity. She kept us all smiling as she ran through the long grasses and doted on her new baby brother.

We chose Binder Lake for this session not only because it’s a peaceful, beautiful spot, but because it holds special meaning for their family—it’s where we took Eleanor’s newborn photos just two years ago. Coming back here to mark another milestone felt so full-circle and sentimental in the best way.

The morning was warm and soft, with the kind of gentle light that makes everything feel a little extra magical. We kept the vibe relaxed and natural, letting the kids lead the pace and the moments unfold without pressure. Jack snoozed in his parents’ arms, Eleanor explored the lake and spotted a swan, and in between we caught those sweet, quiet connections that make this season so tender and fleeting.

On our way out, we noticed the grass dotted with tiny wildflowers just starting to bloom—almost like a little gift from spring itself. We had to stop. Eleanor ran barefoot through the blossoms, and I snapped a few final frames as Victoria and Jordan looked on with full hearts and full hands.

Sessions like this remind me why I love family photography so much. It’s about more than the photos—it’s about marking the moments that matter, especially when life feels like it’s moving fast. Getting to document this chapter for a family I love, in a place that means something to them, was such an honor.
