Some couples just have that energy—you know, the kind where you can tell they’re effortlessly cool because they don’t care what anyone else thinks. That’s exactly Zac + Nat. Originally from New Jersey, the two reconnected after high school, traveled the world together, and eventually made Oregon home after Zac’s military service. So, when it came time to plan their wedding, it only made sense to bring their new home into their story. They chose to elope at Sparks Lake in Central Oregon, tucked into the Deschutes National Forest, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect fit.

Instead of hotel rooms or a big wedding venue, Zac + Nat chose something way more “them.” They camped out with their friends along Sparks Lake and got ready right there at their vehicles—wind-blown hair, mountain air, and all the laid-back vibes. It set the tone for the day: no pressure, no production, just them and the people who mattered most.

Before their ceremony, we found a quiet, shaded spot near the lake with views of the mountains peeking through. Their first look was filled with laughter, happy tears, and that electric kind of excitement you can feel just by being around them.

From there, we hopped over to Green Lakes Meadow (just a short drive away) for portraits with Mt. Bachelor towering in the background. Oregon really showed off that day.

Even though Sparks Lake is a popular destination, Zac + Nat wanted their ceremony to feel private and intimate. So, we loaded up kayaks and canoes and paddled about 30 minutes across the lake to their hidden campsite. Waiting for us was a simple, handmade arbor built by Zac and his military buddy—proof again that their day was all about love, friendship, and intention.

As the sun dipped behind the mountains, they exchanged vows with just their closest people around. The glow on the lake, the quiet of the forest, and the laughter of friends made it one of those moments that felt truly timeless.

After “I do,” Zac + Nat celebrated the only way they knew how—full of fun and completely true to themselves. They shared a first dance by the water, popped champagne, and (yes!) jumped straight into Sparks Lake in their full wedding attire. It was the perfect mix of joy and spontaneity.
The evening ended with BBQ, stories around camp, and views that stretched across the Deschutes National Forest. No timeline stress, no audience—just a group of friends celebrating love under the Oregon sky.

Zac + Nat’s day is the perfect example of why elopements are so special—because they can be completely tailored to who you are as a couple. Maybe that looks like camping out with your closest friends, paddling across a lake for a private ceremony spot, or jumping into the water in your wedding clothes. Or maybe it looks totally different. The point is, your elopement doesn’t have to fit anyone else’s mold—it’s about creating a day that feels personal, authentic, and unforgettable to you.
